Convent oj Jesus and Mary School,  SIALKOT,  Province of Pakistan The ancient city of Sialkot was once a flourishing agricultural area that was full of beautiful, green flowering trees, shrubs, flowers and crops especially wheat and rice.   The air was free from pollution and the skies were a clear blue. On bright days one could see the Kashmir Mountain peaks covered with snow.   The two rivers – Tavi and Chenab were life-giving for the surrounding environment and for fish. With all this beauty, Sialkot has also become an industrial city.   As the growth of industry has increased around the world, Sialkot has been influenced by these effects.   Hence much cultivated land has been ruthlessly taken over for factories and residential areas.   This has caused much loss to the environment in many ways, including the uprooting of trees, less areas for cultivation, water polluted with chemicals and fresh air replaced by fog and bacteria, causing may diseases....

Through a skit, awareness regarding tree plantation was demonstrated and children were also taught the values of the trees in our life. Tree plantation Nature nurtures, it provides, it satisfies, it sustains life on earth, it gives and continues to give…and bestows on us innumerable blessings…yet we have forgotten the role we can play in return. Keeping this in mind a tree plantation drive was organized in St. Agnes’ High School on 4 th July 2017. Students of Std. V- XII enthusiastically participated in this programme under the guidance of their Principal, Sr. Antonnete and teachers. In order to spread awareness regarding the same students of Std. To make aware of the problem of Global warming, a tree plantation drive was organised in the school premises. The students held a rally around our school premises and a cleanliness drive in the campus.

The Caritas team came to our village Mariakhel to plant new trees in the Church as well as in our school and gave many trees to the families present in the Church. They also came to our school to plant the trees. Rev.Fr.Fabian Paul & Fr.Rizwan Anthony also came with them. The sisters, teaching staff, children and the domestic staff gave them a great welcome. They explained to the children the values of planting the trees. All the sisters, teachers and the students of our school planted the trees in different areas of the school .It was very encouraging to see the excitement of the children while planting the trees. They also watered all the trees in the school. The team gave a plant to each child to plant in their own houses and told them to look after the trees in their surroundings.
