How to make an eco brick? The Sixth Class girls having been making eco bricks – 2 litre non compostable plastic bottles stuffed to capacity with non-recyclable plastic over a period of time. En Cardona (Uruguay) este año separamos papel para llevar al reciclaje. Una de las escuelas públicas de Cardona tiene un convenio con una ONG: a cambio del papel les dan resmas, cartones y papel higiénico así que como ellos son receptores de papel durante el año los niños fueron adquiriendo el hábito de separar el papel en vez de tirarlo con todo el resto de la basura.  Para eso el "buzón de papel" nos fue acompañando y ayudando...  Esperamos en este año que comienza seguir separando la basura y dar nuevos pasos en nuestro compromiso con el medio ambiente. As an effort to bring about awareness in the minds of our children, we, St.Josephs High School, Pashan, Pune, as an institution are trying our best to incorporate in our children how they can best utilize unwanted things. As a child grows up, a wide variety of gizmos take over their minds and in turn cause them to miss out on the importance of spending time to develop their creative minds. We have used candy sticks, paper plates, wrapping paper, thermocol glasses, magazines, straws, bottle covers, etc for craft out of waste material. Children learn a lesson in recycling and it also encourages their creativity, igniting their artistic potential. Besides, it is a great pleasure to watch children show off “ something ” that they have made out of what was otherwise considered to be “nothing”. Three first year students, Katelin Conway, Chelsea Laing and Kellie Hastings, at Jesus and Mary secondary school, Enniscrone, Ireland were involved in a ‘Drop and Shop’ campaign, on the 21 st of April. This was an all-Ireland campaign organised by ‘Friends Of The Earth’ to encourage shops and suppliers to use less plastic packaging. Our students encouraged costumers to drop their plastic in a bin provided and sign a petition. The costumers of our three local supermarkets were very positive and supportive. The local Enniscrone Tidy Towns Committee also helped.

To protect environment we adopted three methods Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. a) Plastic – to reduce practice, the students made eco-bricks from plastic bags filling the plastic bottles. These plastic bags filled bottles will be used as bricks to build toilets. b) Reuse – The parents were asked to use paper bags or cloth bags to buy their vegetables, groceries, etc. and not to use glossy papers to wrap their gifts.   c) Recycle -  The students made Christmas tree from used plastic bottles.  Awareness programme – Children were taken to Art and Craft exhibition where the renowned artists had made art work from waste material at the Kala Ghoda festival.

Power points about the present state of the Earth were shown at Assembly. A special awareness program was prepared by different classes, and shown in the hall. Much emphasis was laid on the three R’s (Recycle, Reuse and Reduce). Students were motivated to take care of God’s creation and not to waste natural resources, especially water. Children were encouraged to put water bowls for the birds in school and at home. Students from the different school houses take weekly turns to keep the grounds clean, as an important step towards saving the Earth. There was also a campaign promoting cleniness by throwing litter into placed bins and waste paper baskets thus peomoting environment cleniness. Our school has an environment club, Pals of the Planet since 1996. This club actively participates in different events to create awareness for the Earth. El día 23 de Febrero del presente año, la Comunidad Educativa del Colegio Mérida aceptó la invitación de Amanc (Asociación Mexicana de Ayuda a Niños con Cáncer A.C.) para unirse a la Campaña Tapatón 2016 que consiste en la recolección y donación de tapas de cualquier tipo para apoyar al tratamiento de niños con cáncer. El Consejo de alumnas de cada sección en coordinación con el Departamento de Servicio Comunitario, se dio a la tarea de concientizar a las alumnas no sólo de las bases de la campaña sino de percibir la dimensión y el destino de su ayuda. Sorprendentemente, la campaña resultó mucho más que una avalancha de tapas por todos lados, un cúmulo de emociones, cooperación, compromiso y entusiasmo de parte de todos los miembros de la Comunidad Educativa.  Fue un verdadero trabajo de equipo, los maestros motivando a las alumnas y contestando dudas que surgieron en el proceso, los trabajadores consiguiendo y trasladando las cajas con tapas de un lado a otro, los padres de famili...

El día 26 de Abril del 2016 tuvimos una experiencia hermosa en la que pudimos compartir como familia, las hermanas mayores del bachillerato con las pequeñas de kínder, transitorio y preescolar. Fue una actividad planeada por el consejo de alumnas (bachillerato) en el marco de la primavera para promover el cuidado de nuestro planeta a través del reciclaje, la siembra de flores y semillas diversas y tener así mismo el privilegio de “Colorear la tierra” alegrándola con los regalos que papá Dios nos ha dado. Las alumnas de tercero de bachillerato, de la mano de las alumnas de los 3 grados de preescolar, convivieron en distintas áreas del Jardín de Niños con su material, el cual consistió en llantas de desuso, unas pintadas de colores y otras tal cual para que pudieran ver el proceso de reciclaje, tierra, regaderas con agua, semillas y una planta en plena floración para que las pequeñas pudieran completar en su mente el camino que va desde la preparación de la tierra hasta el gozo de la ...
