from Ireland Community of Dublin We as a community participated greatly in Laudate Si Week and I believe it was an enriching experience for each one. Posters were put up in various places showing the beauty of creation and the need to take care of our beautiful world. As a community we studied and shared on a booklet entitled "Care of the Earth". This was helpful and practical. We had a beautiful Prayer Service celebrating "What a Wonderful World".  Each Sister planted a seed or plant and intends to nurture it. One evening we followed on Webinar a beautiful and inspiring presentation entitled "Love Letter to the Earth". We make a point of spending some time outdoors,.... smell the flowers and listen to the birds.

Delegation of Ireland Claire Marshall from concern gave a talk to TY students on the work that concern are doing worldwide. Part of the talk was a workshop on sustainability. The students were given the 17 global sustainable development goals, they had to discuss what they felt were the most important goals.  Part of the workshop looked at the vast food waste of irish people and promoted the need for us to provide greater care of our earth and the people on it.  The TY students will be arranging a Christmas jumper day in aid of Concern.

Delegation of Ireland Our 5 th Year, Senior Physics are working on a Sustainable Energy project. Our School sits in plain view of Killala Bay on the North West coast of Ireland. This coastline is continually pounded by a variety of Atlantic Ocean waves. They are researching the possibility of harnessing the energy of these waves. The will do an impact study on our environment and on our tourist industry. They will review different models of wave energy generating machines. Finally, they will try to adapt a generator to our Atlantic Ocean waves.

I meánscoil Íosa agus Muire in Inis Eiscir Abhainn, ghlac thart ar 120 dalta páirt sa dúshláin seo, eagraithe ag Ms O’Dowd. Bhí breis is 300 scoil agus 30,000 dalta ag glacadh páirt ar fud na tíre. I mbliana, cuirfear brábús a thuillfear ó Gaeilge24 i dtreo Chairde an Domhain. Is grúpa iad Cairde an Domhain a bhfuil sé mar sprioc acu dul i ngleic leis na ceisteanna ba mhó i dtaobh cheartas na timpeallachta os ár gcomhair, ó thruailliú plaistigh go briseadh síos na haeráide. The aim of this challenge was to encourage young people to try to speak Irish non-stop for one whole day – 24 hours – at home, at school, in shops and businesses, around the town, in sports clubs and with friends! Delegation of Ireland Last week was National Science week, with the theme of "Sustainability", when we did extra activities in our classes to highlight proper use and care of the Earth.

They are trapped and sometimes die in modern day slavery. They travel under terrible conditions, they work in factories, plough fields, harvest crops, work in quarries, fill brothels, clean homes and haul water. Many are children with tiny fingers for weaving rugs and small shoulders for bearing rifles. Their labour is forced, their bodies beaten, their faces hidden from those who don’...

Delegation of Ireland Sr. Patricia Lynnot rjm, from the Delegation of Ireland is the director of the Killala diocesan Laudato Si’ initiative.  Killala is one of the smaller dioceses and rests along the Western seaboard! Sr. shares some recent happenings... Alton Castle, England. (1 Week, Summer 2019) Geraldine, the youngest member of our Killala diocesan group was given a bursary through CAFOD to join 60 other young people from all round the world to study Laudato Si. She was the only Irish person to attend so she was very privileged indeed. Our thanks to Bishop John who sponsored her flights. While there she was invited to speak about our diocesan Laudato Si’ project.  As we can see from the photos she actively engaged through inviting people to commit to care for the earth by adding a link in the chain. It was not all hard work! I hear she taught some Irish dancing as well!

In City Hall, where girls from various classes won prizes in the ‘Make your own Christmas decoration’ from recyclable materials. The Mayor also features with the girls. Scoil Ide, Galway Irlanda

How to make an eco brick? The Sixth Class girls having been making eco bricks – 2 litre non compostable plastic bottles stuffed to capacity with non-recyclable plastic over a period of time. Some of these are sent to an organisation who make modular furniture and we have issued this challenge to other schools to get involved in the project. Scoil Ide, Galway Irlanda

The Sixth Class girls appear with the Dough Bros – local restaurant owners. The girls wrote to the Dough Bros asking them to change all their utensils to fully compostable items. As a result of this the Dough Bros visited the school and it made the local papers and most importantly they changed all their utensils to compostable items. Scoil Ide, Galway Irlanda

Safe Spray is a spot-on weed killer, made from safe household ingredients, that will kill weeds on patios, drive-ways and paving without exposing children or animals to harmful chemicals. The transition year team of Robert Hannon, Michael Kilcullen, Sean Quinn and David Hallinan won 3rd place in the county finals of the Student Enterprise Awards with their innovative eco-friendly product. It is available for sale in the local hardware store. Their idea was to create a non-toxic, non-chemical product that would kill weeds but have no harmful affect on the environment. Ireland

Dear Sisters and Friends, I am delighted to have this opportunity to share with you something dear to the heart of St. Claudine – the rescue and protection of young people, and in particular, young women and girls who are caught up in the nightmare of Human Trafficking for Prostitution. www.aptireland.org In the Irish Delegation, we have heard the call of Claudine and Pope Francis to “heal the wound on the side of humanity” today – the ‘scourge’ of Human Trafficking for slave – labour; prostitution of young women, girls and boys; trafficking of human organs. Two of our JM Sisters have joined with 27 other Religious Congregations to raise awareness of this ‘scourge’ in our country. Our organisation is called APT (Act to Prevent Trafficking). “Scourge”; “Betrayal”, … words of our Lenten journey through darkness, sinfulness, pain, betrayals and imprisonment towards the freedom of redemption and resurrection. Sr. Patricia Lynott giving a presentation at Delegation conference  of Ireland on care of the earth.  It´s has been an inspiring moment. Patricia arranged a Visual of the earth on the floor, beautiful and balanced.  She showed a Powerpoint on issues dealing with care of the earth. Human’s activity destroys the beauty of the earth….visual of this on the floor as she dropped papers and bric a brac on the ground.  The contrast between the beauty of the first visual and the mess of the second was striking and gave an example of how we are destroying the earth. Patricia spoke about the Global pledge to care for the Earth…start small and went global. We committed to the following:  Switch off lights, turn off water, care with cleaning materials, use led lighting, plant shrubs, etc Ireland

Three first year students, Katelin Conway, Chelsea Laing and Kellie Hastings, at Jesus and Mary secondary school, Enniscrone, Ireland were involved in a ‘Drop and Shop’ campaign, on the 21 st of April. This was an all-Ireland campaign organised by ‘Friends Of The Earth’ to encourage shops and suppliers to use less plastic packaging. Our students encouraged costumers to drop their plastic in a bin provided and sign a petition. The costumers of our three local supermarkets were very positive and supportive. The local Enniscrone Tidy Towns Committee also helped.

In Enniscrone, County Sligo, Ireland, Transition Year students (15 to 16 years) are involved in a ‘Young Environmentalist Project’. This is part of our involvement in obtaining a National Green Flag for ‘Global Citizenship and Waste’. Our focus is on the wonderful product ‘Plastic’. It is hugely important to our everyday life, but its disposal is becoming a major hazard in our seas and in landfill sites, as it will remain for generations. We will be emailing Jesus and Mary Secondary Schools all over the world. We will ask them to answer 2 questions. 1.   What are the problems associated with waste plastic in your local area? 2.   Have you suggestions for recycling or reuse of plastic products? We would welcome any other ideas from around the world. Please reply as we welcome your partnership in the care of our environment and God’s wonderful creation.
